Get Ready To Be Wicked!

Howdy y'all! Today's treat on my week long teaser to my interview with Tabatha Vargo, author of WICKED Fate is an excerpt from her amazing novel! Which just so happens to be set in the best place in the world; South Carolina!

The next day at school, everyone’s talking aboutthe unique weather and how the weather man can’t explain the strangephenomenon. Weather professionals from all over the United States have come toSummerville to be a part of what’s now called “The North Pole of the South.”

They can’t figure out how it’shappening. How in Summerville there’s snow, ice, and fifteen-degree weather. Yetin Charleston, twenty minutes down the road, there’s breeze, sunshine, andseventy-degree weather.

I’m staring into my lockertrying to figure out how to make it stop. I hate that I can’t change theweather, that I can’t make this cold lonesome feeling go away. I throw books inand pull books out, and then I feel someone behind me. I know who it is withouteven looking. His warmth spreads through me and for a minute I feel likenothing’s changed. The feeling quickly disappears when he turns and walks away.I turn around in time to see Adam walk around the corner without looking back.

Gym flies by in a daze; Bernieasks me several times if I’m okay.

“I’m okay. I think I’m gettingsick or something,” I shrug.

The quick peek I get of him inthe hallway is the only time I see Adam today. He didn’t come to lunch and hedoesn’t show up to history either. Even though technically I see him in schoolmost days, I still miss him so much. Somehow, the empty desk next to me makesit worse.

I agree to let Bernie give me aride home from school. We walk through the parking lot towards her car, stoppingevery now and again for her to talk to someone. She’s become quite the Social Sallyin the last couple of weeks. I think it has something to do with therelationship between her and Kale.

When we get to Bernie’s car, which is parked closest to the trees, I wait as she digs through her book bagsearching for her car keys. I can feel Adam’s gaze penetrating my skin. I lookover to where his truck is usually parked and he’s there. He’s leaning againstthe driver’s side, his arms crossed over his chest as he stares back at me. Helooks pissed off and mad at the world. Good! Join the crowd, punk!

That’s when I hear it, a loudpopping and cracking noise. I turn my head quickly to the noise and I noticethat a huge pine tree that’s draped over Bernie’s car is frozen solid. Long sharpicicles hang from it, waiting to drop at any second. One of the large brancheslooks like it’s about to break off and that branch is covered in the largestand sharpest of the icicles—it’s right above Bernie’s head.

An icicle breaks off and darts straighttowards Bernie’s car crashing into it before I can stop it. I jump back andBernie screams as she falls onto her back. Before she has a chance to move anothersharp icicle heads straight towards her followed by the entire tree branch—it’sthe size of a small tree.

I react quickly without a thoughtfor the people surrounding me. I lift my hand to the falling objects; I feel asmall sting when the now invisible fire leaves my fingertips. I don’t even feelthe fire anymore, not since I started using my magic every day.

The falling objects stopabruptly and sit, floating in mid air for a second or so. I quickly fling myarm towards the woods; the huge tree branch along with four sharp icicles flyinto the woods.

I drop my hand quickly praying that no one sawwhat I’d done. I’m on the outer edge of a packed parking lot full of people whoalready think I’m odd. The last thing I need right now is for those exact same peopleto see me do what I just did.

Enjoy this teaser! And keep coming back as we get closer to my big interview with Tabatha!

Let me introduce...Wicked Fate!

Hey y'all! Today I'm going to introduce you to WICKED FATE! This is all leading up to my interview with the author Tabatha Vargo on friday. I'm a part of her blog tour and so excited!

Here is a blurb about her novel, WICKED FATE!

What if you lived in fear of yourself?
For Mage McPherson being afraid of herself is just the norm. Thanks to that fear, being a loner in a small town never bothered the mysterious Mage. Once she received her secret abilities, she figured being alone was the safest way to be. That all changes during her sophomore year at Summerville High when Adam, her equally mysterious secret crush, starts to notice her.
Afraid that she might harm Adam, Mage must learn to either control or deny herself. With Adam by her side she's more powerful than she’s ever been, but is she powerful enough to defeat her worst nightmare? She learns a hard lesson about love and magic when her destiny comes to collect.

Are you ready to get a little wicked? To enjoy some magic and romance? Maybe for things to get a little steamy between Adam and Mage? Then be prepared to order a copy of WICKED FATE on November 30th from Amazon!

Writing and Soulmates

"You get ideas from daydreaming. You get ideas from being bored. You get ideas all the time. The only difference between writers and other people is we notice when we're doing it."  ~Neil Gaiman

So being a writer is a wonderful and painful experience. Constantly being flowed by plots and ideas, yet never being able to make them flow or stick. Spending years on a story, knowing it will be amazing when you finish it, only to realize that this isn't the "One". It isn't the story of stories, the one you want to be remembered for.

My writing has been suffering for a while. I had ideas and plots, but no focus. I'm hoping to change that as I begin another rewrite on Southern Charm. I have to finish this story. Even if it is the worst story ever written, I have to finish it. I haven't completed a story in 3 years. It's kind of depressing.

But now for a happier side. I have found my writing soulmate! Her name is Tabatha Vargo (Check out her blog here;  http://tabathavargo.blogspot.com/) and she is amazing! We just clicked and her writing is awesome! We have writing dates on Mondays, whenever possible. Even if we only talk about writing for a few minutes it's still amazing!

Very soon we'll be going to YALL Fest and participating in NANOWRIMO. It's great to have someone who can understand and sympathize with how difficult it can be to be a writer. With her on my side I think I'll finally get the support and shove to finish Southern Charm, and maybe even to find my "One".

Reflections ~ End of Summer

As of today my countdown says I have 22 days left until school starts on August 20th, 328 days until my 3 year anniversary, 116 days until Thanksgiving, and 103 days until Zach's birthday. That's a lot of days and numbers, but those are important dates for me. But as I sit here planning for each of those days I think back to a few months ago when the countdowns reflected the days until I would finally see Zach after being apart over 6 months, the day I would graduate from high school and Zach's and my 2 year anniversary. Those have all passed and now I've moved on, but still part of me wishes I could go back and relive this summer.

I want to go back to pacing around the house while I constantly checked the time and waited for Zach and Mike to arrive. I want to go back to arriving at the hotel after 8pm, tired and stressed but loving the feeling of being the center of attention. I want to go back to running around a fancy hotel in my pajamas with Kyle and Zach. I want to stand on that stage again and say everything all over again, even though I felt like I was going to pass out from the pressure I put on myself. I want to go back to that morning in the hotel when I woke up and knew that Zach was right there and he was going to see me accomplish something special.

But I can only go back in my memories. I tend to spend a lot of time in those memories, because to be honest life is just a constant mess of drama, heartache and work. Then when school starts it will be all of that plus books, studying, tests and annoying facts I don't want or need to know. That's life and for those moments when life becomes unbearably dull I can go back to those memories. I know I can't spend forever in my memories, but I can't spend forever in the future. It's hard to live somewhere in the past and somewhere in the future but nowhere in the present.

"The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present." ~ Alice Morse Earle
For me it's hard to figure out how to stay in the present and not the past or future. Life seems better in hindsight and much nicer in the future. Can't the present be just as nice? Isn't living in the moment supposed to be amazing and freeing? That's what I plan to figure out. This year will be different. Life has had many ups and downs, along with a large amount of change just in the past three years, but I'm better for all of that. Well, actually I'm worse in many areas for most of it, but I'm going to move past that and become better.

The big question is always "Would you change anything if you could go back in time?", and I think about it hard. Would I? I want to say yes. I want to leave instead of being left. I want to prove I'm not someone who can be walked all over. I want to change many things and not trust anyone who ended up hurting me. But those who left I didn't need in my life. I may have been walked over, but I still kept my cool and didn't go for revenge. I trusted and it was betrayed, but I'm more careful with who I give my trust to now.

Still I may not be the same me I was, but somewhere I'm still in there. Scooby Doo stills makes me laugh. Princesses makes me want to believe in fairy tales. I still talk too much and get too loud. I'm always going to complain about all the work I have but the outcome is still pretty good.

So would I change anything? Yeah, I'd try to handle things better and remember that what I thought yesterday was going to the end of the world wasn't even close. And things always get better, no matter how bad they seem. Most of all, enjoy the small moments, like getting caught in the rain and being soaked, taking walks with nowhere to go, watching the stupidest movies and still laughing.

I leave y'all with my one of my favorite quotes. Enjoy :)

"Move on. It is just a chapter in the past, but don't close the book- just turn the page." ~ Unknown
